Learn to EarnPreparing young people for the world of work is a key objective for Young Enterprise. We believe it is increasingly important for young people to understand how vital and relevant their education is to their future lives and to succeeding in the business world. Launched in the UK as a pilot in the 2003/3 academic years, Learn To Earn is designed to give 13 -15 year old students an activity-based introduction into the relationship between learning and the attainment of personal goals. In Jersey a very successful and well received pilot programme was undertaken at Beaulieu School during spring 2005. The programme helps students to explore the concepts of success, independence and employment and shows the importance of education to them for the future. With the guidance of a Teacher and a Volunteer Business Partner, students learn about the relationship between education and personal goals. They learn how to create budgets, learn to understand the costs of living on their own, and they explore types of careers to match their lifestyle expectations. This programme is presented in-curriculum over six one-hour weekly sessions though may be feasible in a one-day seminar. As a result of participating in the Learn to Earn Programme, students gain:
