Corporate VolunteeringIn the past many businessmen and companies in Jersey have said they feel that young people are leaving school ill equipped for their working life. Because the various Young Enterprise programmes are run by business people they provide an opportunity of addressing this issue. In particular, previous participants in the company programme have said that it has assisted them in making the transition from school to work. Participation in Young Enterprise can also be used by companies as one element of formal development programmes for their staff. Planning and presenting any of the school based programmes can be particularly useful in this respect. Participation can also raise the profile of a business with those soon to become workers and consumers and can facilitate to identification of possible future employees. A room that can accommodate about 16 people holding a meeting after working hours one evening each week and three advisors to attend these meetings are the basic requirements for any group undertaking the company programme. Normally at least two of the advisors would work for the business providing the premises and any business able to provide these can usefully participate in the programme. The other programmes are provided “in-school” either on a single day or at the same time each week for a short period. They require significant planning and co-ordination with the school concerned and are more appropriate for larger businesses. Our current corporate supporters include:- Barclays Private Bank and Trust Ltd.
